The new weekly show, “Around The World”, is a journey of the senses through the World, passing through Europe to Africa, Asia and America. Elvis Presley, Leonard Cohen, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner will be able to travel to the Bahia Restaurant through the presentation and representation of some of the most emblematic figures in world music history such as Adele, Elton John and Elvis Presley, of Carmen Miranda, Célia Cruz and Edith Piaf.
It is a show especially designed for the Casino of Madeira that aims to enhance the cultural diversity of the four corners of the World on a single stage. The singers to perform at this show are the two most famous names on Madeira Island, Vânia Fernandes, winner of the RTP programs “Operação Triunfo” and “Festival da Canção”, and Portugal’s representative in Eurovision, and Miguel Pires a of the best male voices ever from the Region.
The show will also be supported by a musical band composed of seven musicians and directed by the musical director Georgy Titov, a ballet body will be led by the renowned ballerina Juliana Andrade, and the costumes will be made by the designer Madeirense André Pereira. The show is accompanied by a menu, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with drinks included, ideal for celebrating special moments.

On February 22, at 9 pm, the Municipal Theater Baltazar Dias will stage a Tribute concert to the 70’s.
The event brings together classics that marked a generation and also Portuguese music, recalling successes of musicians like Zeca Afonso, Max, Paulo de Carvalho, Tony Cruz, Sérgio Borges, Luís Filipe among others.
Accompanied by a band composed of five elements, the artists Miguel Pires, Vânia Fernandes, Fernando Almeida and Sara Gonçalves will step up to give voice to songs that will take us to travel in a kind of time machine.
The concert of Tribute to the 70’s is an organization of the Municipality of Funchal, with production of Paulo Ferraz and band direction of Ricardo Dias.
Tickets cost € 10.
The ‘Festa dos Compadres’ marks the opening of the Carnival season in Madeira, a tradition going back to more than 50 years, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Santana.

Children’s Carnival 1st March
During this period, children and their parents engage in making masks to take to school. On Friday morning, prior to Carnival, about a thousand young revellers from various schools and kindergartens of Funchal, all in disguise, parade through the city center (Avenida Arriaga), in an atmosphere of Carnival liveliness.
Solidarity Carnival 1st March
On Friday afternoon, previous to Carnival, the city center is once again the stage of another highly original and creative entertainment initiative: with contagious energy, hundreds of revellers from “Associação de Desenvolvimento Comunitário do Funchal” parade along Avenida Arriaga towards the Municipal Garden, where a show takes place.

Saturday 2nd March
On Saturday night, the colourful and vibrant float parade takes thousands of visitors and residents to the Center of Funchal. This is the main attraction of Madeira Carnival. Over a thousand revellers participate dressed in eye-catching costumes in addition to a dozen exquisitely decorated floats.
The parade is opened with music: the colourful joy and the rhythm of the costumed troupes are contagious. They parade enthusiastically to the sound of selected songs that were choreographed and rehearsed throughout the year, overflowing the public with their joy.
