The new weekly show, “Around The World”, is a journey of the senses through the World, passing through Europe to Africa, Asia and America. Elvis Presley, Leonard Cohen, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner will be able to travel to the Bahia Restaurant through the presentation and representation of some of the most emblematic figures in world music history such as Adele, Elton John and Elvis Presley, of Carmen Miranda, Célia Cruz and Edith Piaf.

It is a show especially designed for the Casino of Madeira that aims to enhance the cultural diversity of the four corners of the World on a single stage. The singers to perform at this show are the two most famous names on Madeira Island, Vânia Fernandes, winner of the RTP programs “Operação Triunfo” and “Festival da Canção”, and Portugal’s representative in Eurovision, and Miguel Pires a of the best male voices ever from the Region.

The show will also be supported by a musical band composed of seven musicians and directed by the musical director Georgy Titov, a ballet body will be led by the renowned ballerina Juliana Andrade, and the costumes will be made by the designer Madeirense André Pereira. The show is accompanied by a menu, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with drinks included, ideal for celebrating special moments.

Madeira Carnival festivities offer a variety of activities you can choose from, with the option to enjoy them as a simple spectator or as an active participant.<

In Madeira, the Carnival season is experienced in a constant festive atmosphere, both with official initiatives and those of a more spontaneous character, deep-rooted in Madeiran tradition, with joy and cheerfulness prevailing in the streets, establishments and private homes, between the February,26th to March,6th.

Street Entertainment
In Funchal, in particular the central walkway at Avenida Arriaga, is captivated by the magic of Carnival, which becomes the center of numerous street entertainment events, including carnival music, performances and countless events that contribute to rousing the spirit of revelry in tourists and locals.

Theme Parties
Nightlife hangout spots also offers various themed nights, during the period preceding Carnival, such as “Hippies Night” and “Travesties Night”, inviting their clients to enjoy themselves disguising with a theme mask.

Children’s Carnival 1st March

During this period, children and their parents engage in making masks to take to school. On Friday morning, prior to Carnival, about a thousand young revellers from various schools and kindergartens of Funchal, all in disguise, parade through the city center (Avenida Arriaga), in an atmosphere of Carnival liveliness.

Solidarity Carnival  1st March

On Friday afternoon, previous to Carnival, the city center is once again the stage of another highly original and creative entertainment initiative: with contagious energy, hundreds of revellers from “Associação de Desenvolvimento Comunitário do Funchal” parade along Avenida Arriaga towards the Municipal Garden, where a show takes place.

On Saturday night, the colourful and lively allegoric parade brings thousands of
tourists and residents to Funchal’s centre in order to watch it. This is the main
attraction of the Madeira Carnival Festivities, and this year’s parade will participate
around 1.900 revellers, with flashy costumes and approximately ten exquisitely
decorated allegoric vehicles.

Saturday 2nd March

On Saturday night, the colourful and vibrant float parade takes thousands of visitors and residents to the Center of Funchal. This is the main attraction of Madeira Carnival. Over a thousand revellers participate dressed in eye-catching costumes in addition to a dozen exquisitely decorated floats.

The parade is opened with music: the colourful joy and the rhythm of the costumed troupes are contagious. They parade enthusiastically to the sound of selected songs that were choreographed and rehearsed throughout the year, overflowing the public with their joy.

Conducted at the Central Square of Avenida Arriaga, the public may enjoy a show
focused on the circus arts, dance and singing, where art and life are intertwined,
always with the magic that connects us to the Madeira Carnival Festivities 2019.
The show, which lasts 45 minutes, includes acrobats, stilts, aerial performances,
vertical dancing, poi balls jugglers, fire breathers, as well as, urban style, burlesque
and jazz dancers.

Carnaval de São Vicente, São Vicente

Carnaval no Campanário 2019 – Cortejo Trapalhão, Campanário

The Casa do Povo de Campanário organizes once again the traditional Carnival procession. This year the event will include the procession and also musical animation and stalls of food and drink next to the Casa da Povo (at the end of the procession) Soon the final poster will be released. Stay tuned!
